The team at AdserverPlugins.com is proud to release a new version of the Retargeting plugin for OpenX Source. This new release of TargetiX, version 1.3, adds a feature that enables you to set a cookie when a web user clicks on one of your banners.

New feature ‘click retargeting’ based on customer suggestion
We received several requests over the past year, from existing licensees and potential buyers, to add this feature. Based on the number of suggestions this sounded like the most popular new feature and therefore we decided to add it to this new version. We’re sure that there are great ideas still waiting to be implemented, so please let us know if there is something that you think is vital for a future release.
Use cases and scenarios
Just like with the existing features, this new feature adds virtually limitless use cases and scenarios to the software. But we wanted to give a few examples to tickle your imagination.
The click on a banner could be interpreted as a very clear signal by the web site visitor about their interest in the product or service being advertised. It might mean they are interested in the particular offer or the category it is associated with. Let’s take the example of a banner announcing a conference on online marketing. If you set a cookie when the user clicks this banner, this would enable you to target the user with other banners for related offers, or you could show them a banner for the same conference but this time with a special offer.
Being able to set a cookie when a banner is clicked also means you do not have to put a pixel on the landing page. This is useful because it is not always easy to have such a pixel incorporated, either because it’s not your own site or because the third party website can’t implement it quickly enough.
Immediate availability
The new version 1.3.0 of TargetiX, the Retargeting plugin for OpenX Source, is available for all existing licensees. Buyers that have purchased their license less than one year ago will receive the new version automatically by e-mail, and so will buyers that have an upgrade plan after the first year. If you have a license but no upgrade plan, this might be the perfect reason to consider getting an upgrade subscription. For just 15% of the original license fee per year, you would receive this and all future updates automatically.
We are excited about this new feature and hope our licensees and future buyers will like it as well. Please feel free to contact us if you would like to know more about the software or if you are interested to purchase a license.
Hi,
Is TargetiX still under development? This (last) blog-post is over 6 months old.
Thanks for some information about your recent activities and future planning!
Greetings, Sven
Hi Sven,
Yes, sure, TargetiX is still under development, we actually released two new versions since that last blog. The new versions both related to the functionality around click-retargeting, and also we added a feature to define the maximum lifespan of cookies set by our plugin.
Best regards, the team at AdserverPlugins.com
Is it possible to drop a cookie on a user who views our creative although he did not click on it? We are interested in such solution. Please let me know if you can help.
Thanks!
Yes, that’s possible For every banner in OpenX Source, there is an “advanced” tab. There is an ‘append’ field in where you can paste the code for your retargeting pixel. When the banner is requested and displayed by means of a javascript zone tag, the code in the ‘append’ field is also sent to the browser and executed. This will create the cookie.
That’s awesome. And can that cookie information be stored in OpenX or in an outside database?
The TargetiX plugin can store it’s key-value pairs in a cookie, or in special table in the OpenX Source database, or both. For scalability, the data table can even be stored in an external MySQL database (we provide a free driver for that). However, in case of database storage everything will always be related to the user’s interactions with the OpenX Source ad server by means of the OAID cookie. This cookie contains a unique yet completely random string of numbers and characters, and that value is the key in the data table to store and retrieve that browser’s other values.
For extreme scalability, we recommend not using database storage but high volume storage in cookies.
Are you available to discuss this further? You can email me your contact details and I can set up a call with our tech team.
Thank you!
