OpenX Statistics as Graphs plugin updated (v1.0.4)

Statistics as Graphs - OpenX pluginThe team at AdserverPlugins.com is releasing an update of the free Statistics as Graphs plugin for the OpenX Ad Server. This version 1.0.4 is available for download right now.

In a number of specific cases, upgrading from version 1.0.2 to version 1.0.3 does not fix the security vulnerability that was fixed in version 1.0.3. Users running version 1.0.3 who had earlier versions on their server should upgrade to version 1.0.4 to remove the vulnerable file.

As always with security fix releases, it is crucial to upgrade to the newest version as soon as possible.

Quova geotargeting plugin for OpenX

QuovaWe recently worked with Quova, a company specializing in IP to location data and services. They commissioned us to develop a custom OpenX plugin that enables OpenX users to make use of the Quova Geo IP API. The plugin, once installed and configured, provides geotargeting capabilities that are similar to those of other providers.

Quova powers the geotargeting feature in the new OpenX Enterprise 3.0 (available as a hosted solution only), but now their geotargeting feature is available to OpenX Source v2.8 users as well. They offer two flavors, an On Demand Hosted Service and an On Premise GeoDirectory service. This plugin is free of charge, but there may be charges for using Quova’s IP to Location lookup services.

Download the Quova Geotargeting plugin for OpenX, developed by AdserverPlugins.com, and read the installation and configuration instructions on their developer pages to get the maximum benefit from this plugin.

Geolocation Magic MacrosThe team at AdserverPlugins.com is proud to announce the release of version 1.0.0 of the Geolocation Magic Macros plugin for OpenX Ad Server, after several months at beta. New Free Plugin for OpenX: Geolocation Magic Macros

The team at Adserverplugins.com is proud to announce their newest free plugin for the OpenX Ad Server: Geolocation Magic Macros.

Geolocation Magic MacrosThe Geolocation Magic Macros plugin for OpenX, Magic Geo in short, enables you to dynamically insert the name of the geographic location of a visitor into a banner. This can be used in both the HTML code and the destination URL. Using this new feature, you can automatically make a banner adjust its content to the location of a visitor.

Demonstration

The banner below demonstrates this by showing your country name and country code, and the name of the continent, and a link to a Wikipedia article about your country.

The code used in this HTML banner looks like this:
You are currently in <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/{geo.country.enc}" title="read about {geo.country} on Wikipedia" target="_blank">{geo.country}, country code {geo.country_code}</a>, which is part of {geo.continent}.

OpenX Statistics as Graphs plugin (v1.0.1)

The team at AdserverPlugins.com is releasing an update of the free Statistics as Graphs plugin for the OpenX Ad Server. This version 1.0.1 is available for download right now.

This is a bug fix release that takes care of the following issues:

  • Fixed compatibility issue with PHP versions lower than v5.2.
  • Fixed problem with very big numbers in the statistics being represented in scientific notation, but Open Flash Chart v2 can’t handle scientific notation.
  • Fixed problem with graphs not being displayed in certain situations in Internet Explorer, when the OpenX user interface is running on a secure address (https).
  • Fixed problem where the “Next” button underneath the graphs was appearing out of place when using Internet Explorer 8.

We want to thank all the people that contacted us to report their issues, and helped us test our proposed fixes before releasing the update to the public. Feel free to leave your comments below if you have feedback, tips or suggestions for this plugin.

Update Monday February 22

We accidentally offered version 1.0.0 for download, labeling it as version 1.0.1. This has been corrected today. Anyone who attempted to download the new version 1.0.1 before Monday, February 22, 12 PM CET (6 AM Eastern time) should download it again and will now receive the real version 1.0.1. You can recognize version 1.0.1 by its file size of about 313 KB, whereas version 1.0.0 has a file size of about 320 KB. Also, the files inside the zipped file are clearly marked with their version numbers. We apologize for the confusion that this mix-up his caused.

New features

In addition to the Global History Graph that was available in the beta version, this new version now has graphs for almost all statistics that OpenX can show:

  • Advertiser
  • Campaign
  • Banner
  • Website
  • Zone

Graphs are now available for all user types (administrators, managers, advertisers, website owners).

Every graph has buttons to navigate to the previous and next month, or to go up a level to show the current year’s statistics. Clicking a bar will drill down into the underlying statistics, down to a day graph with an hourly break down.

Graphs will show the actual numbers for every bar and dot by positioning the mouse over them.

Improvements

The graphs are now displayed using the open source product “Open Flash Chart 2“, which comes bundled with the plugin. To speed up the display of the graphs, the initial time frame is always the current month.

Video ads made easier using OpenX Video Plugin

A few days after we published our call to help kick start the OpenX Plugin Ecosystem, OpenX.org released a new plugin that enables users to deliver video ads directly through their OpenX Ad Server.

OpenX Product Manager James Kung writes on the OpenX blog:

This plugin represents significant progress, both in terms of the types of ad formats you can manage through any OpenX ad server and in terms of the extensibility of OpenX as a foundation for your ad serving. (…) Since this is the first version of the OpenX Video Plugin, it is intended to serve your own video ads only and does not include the ability to integrate video ads coming from ad networks. We will be working to evolve the plugin to include more features like this in the next version.

The OpenX blog has more details on this new video plugin and links to the documentation. The plugin is available as a free download (zip file) for installation in a self-hosted OpenX system, and it has also been installed on the OpenX Community Hosted environment (which is the new name of the OpenX Hosted product). It follows the VAST standard for video ads that have been established by the IAB (Interactive Advertising Bureau) and works in pair with any video player that can support the addition of a VAST plugin.

The OpenX Video Plugin was scheduled to be published with OpenX Ad Server version 2.8.2, but for reasons unknown to us, it didn’t make it into that release. Instead of waiting for the release of version 2.8.3, OpenX.org have decided to offer it as a separate download.
